Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a lump with pus in the back of my throat. I do not know what this is; there is no pain. Please advise.

Hello,

Thanks for trusting us with your health care.

I can understand your concern.

I had a detailed look at the picture you sent (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity). There is absolutely nothing for you to worry about. The lump, bump, or pus-filled area is a lymphoid follicle that could have gotten infected. The oral cavity harbors billions of organisms that can create a local area of inflammation, which may not produce any symptoms. I would suggest doing saltwater gargles four to five times every day for the next month. This should reduce the inflammation to a large extent.

Avoid the consumption of spicy, oily, junk food, and cold or carbonated beverages as they can flare up existing inflammation. In short, there is nothing for you to be worried about. Do let us know in a month about the situation, and we will try to help you accordingly.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you again for your time; I greatly appreciate it.

I consulted an ENT physician. In the first sitting, he said it was granular pharyngitis and prescribed antibiotics, acid reflux tablets, and allergy tablets. In the second sitting today, he mentioned I have tonsillitis and recommended surgery to remove both the tonsils and the lump. Could you please clarify whether I should proceed with the surgery?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your tonsils are not enlarged enough to require surgery here. Even if you get them removed, your primary issue is not going to resolve. Yes, there is suspicion of acid reflux, and it has to be appropriately addressed with precautionary care and medical therapy. The issue will slowly resolve with time, and there is nothing for you to worry about. I will not advise for surgery in your case.

I hope this has helped you.

Warm regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

My concern is that lump. When I touched it, pus came out. After 4 to 5 days, pus formed in the lump again.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about the pus from the enlarged lymph node. Good saltwater gargles and lifestyle changes mentioned earlier should resolve the problem in 5 to 6 weeks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
