Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 17 years old, and I am scared I might be pregnant. I was involved in intercourse a week ago, and the condom broke. We used the withdrawal method, but still, I am scared because my periods have been delayed, and I feel tender breasts. I have been on birth control for two years as well. What are the chances of my pregnancy? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

There is less chance of pregnancy in the withdrawal method. I would suggest you plan for a pregnancy test.

Delayed periods can occur due to the following reasons:

  1. Infection: If white discharge is present, take a tablet of Doxy (Doxycycline Hyclate) 100mg twice daily for five days.
  2. Hormonal issues: Plan for TFT (Thyroid function test)
  3. PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome): Plan for ultrasound abdomen.
  4. Anaemia: Check for hemoglobin levels.
  5. Vitamin deficiency: Check for folic acid, vitamin B, and vitamin D.
  6. Dehydration: Consume adequate water
  7. Take a tablet of Livogen-z (Multivitamins) once a night and plan for investigations.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
