What are the methods for overcoming nail infection?

Hello doctor,

I accidentally jammed my thumb’s nail about six months ago from closing a taxi door on it. I did not treat it, as I did not realize how serious the symptoms were until five days later. It was too late to save the nail, so I let it fall off while growing a new one. After the new one grew, it had problems, such as white spots on the nail and deformation of the nail. During this time, I neglected my health because I had problems dealing with work mentally and did not attend to my thumb nail appropriately. It has been about eight months, and I believe my nails have already grown in their deformed shape. I suffer problems from it, such as not being able to properly grip things with it because the thumb is sensitive and the nail’s ending point is not like a regular nail. I am currently away from home and do not know how to treat my nail or what medication and cream to use. The problem is that the skin is soggy whenever the thumb is exposed to water. The thumb is sensitive to touch, and I cannot properly touch, grab, or grip things as before. It was my fault that I neglected this issue, and I seem to think that there is no hope of having a normal finger. I would appreciate it if you could give me detailed advice on how I can treat it and have a regular finger in touch and grip. Exposure to water makes the skin soggy; touching, grabbing, and gripping result in sensitive sensations. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Can a pregnant woman with scoliosis give birth vaginally?

Hello doctor,

I am 26 weeks pregnant and will give birth in a few months. Yesterday I told my gynecologist that I have scoliosis and asked if this could cause me any problems for a vaginal delivery. She said that if I do not have any recent X-rays, nobody will be able to answer this question because I cannot do X-rays right now, and even if an orthopedic doctor should see me now, my back is all changed now anyway due to the pregnancy. I had my last X-ray 10 years ago, and I believe my scoliosis condition has remained stable.

So, I wanted to ask if scoliosis is a problem for a natural birth or not. Mine is around 30 degrees and not operated because it was not severe enough to be operated on and cured during my teenage years with scoliosis braces.

Also, the gynecologist told me that the baby is growing bigger than it should (I am like two weeks ahead for its weight), so if the baby turns out to be big or more than 7.7 pounds, will the situation of scoliosis or vaginal birth be even more complicated or will the weight not affect the birth?

Please help,

Thanks.

When is the ideal time to do surgery of a broken outer ankle bone?

Hello doctor,

I broke my outer ankle bone. The first X-ray was taken when I first had the accident, and the second X-ray was taken eight days after casting. I consulted three bone and joint specialized hospitals, but two doctors advised surgery, and the other one said that it could be preserved.

I want to know if I should get myself re-examined and take an MRI to see if the ankle ligaments are torn or not. Should I continue waiting until the cast is removed and check again later? If I have to continue with the cast but if my ankle is still too loose, can I have surgery later or have I passed the golden period for surgery? Can a grade 3 ligament tear heal on its own? Please help.

Thank you.
