Urinary infections are the infections affecting any organ of the urinary tract, namely the kidneys, ureter, urethra, and the urinary bladder. Bacteria cause most of these infections. The common symptoms seen are pain and burning on urination, frequent urination, blood and cloudy urine, foul-smelling urine, pelvic or rectal pain, and feeling of urgency to urinate. Sometimes, organisms that cause sexually transmitted diseases like herpes, Chlamydia, and gonorrhea can also cause urinary infections. Sexually active people, women, the use of diaphragms and spermicidal agents, and people with an impaired immune system, diabetes, and who use catheter are prone to urinary infections.
