Kidneys stones, also called renal calculi, can develop anywhere in the urinary tract, which comprises of the kidneys, ureter, urethra, and bladder. The types of kidney stones are calcium, uric acid, struvite, and cystine. The symptoms include blood in urine, nausea, severe pain in the back or abdomen, vomiting, foul-smelling urine, fever, chills, and frequent urination. Dehydration, obesity, gastric bypass surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, etc., are the risk factors for developing kidney stones. The treatment is done by medications (Allopurinol, Thiazide diuretics, Ibuprofen, Sodium bicarbonate), lithotripsy, tunnel surgery or ureteroscopy.
