A type of arthritis that results from the buildup of uric acid in the body is called gout. It most commonly causes pain, swelling, and redness in the joints of the big toe. Most patients have burning pain in the big toe at night. If the body produces too much uric acid or the body is unable to excrete it effectively, uric acid accumulates in the body. This excess uric acid in the blood gets accumulated in the joints after getting converted to urate crystals. The medicines used in the treatment are NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Indomethacin), Colchicine, corticosteroids (Prednisone), Xanthine oxidase inhibitors (Allopurinol, Febuxostat), and Uricosuric (Probenecid, Lesinurad).
