Chikungunya is a viral infection caused by the chikungunya virus (CHIKV). This virus is spread when an infected mosquito bites humans, and the symptoms develop after 2 to 12 days after exposure. The symptoms include fever, joint pain, headaches, joint swelling, muscle pain, conjunctivitis, nausea, vomiting, and rashes. A blood test is the only way to diagnose this infection. Chikungunya is rarely fatal, but the symptoms are severe and disabling. There is no specific treatment for this disease, and only symptomatic relief is given with the help of anti-inflammatory medicines like Naproxen and Ibuprofen.
