LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery that uses a laser to change the shape of the cornea to correct visual problems. It is done to treat vision problems like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. This procedure is done under topical anesthesia. The risks involved with LASIK are dry eyes, double vision, glare, uveitis, retinal detachment, subconjunctival hemorrhage, corneal scarring, and vision loss. This procedure is not indicated for people with keratoconus, presbyopia, severe nearsightedness, large pupils, and thin cornea. Here, a very thin and square flap is cut into the outer layer of the cornea, and the underlying layers are reshaped to treat distorted vision.
